Food tastes better when you know the hands that grew it.
Communities grow stronger when neighbors gather around the same table.
ABout The Market
The Davidson Farmers Market is a nonprofit, producer-only farmers market built on a simple belief: good food has the power to bring people together. Every Saturday, local farmers and food producers gather in the heart of Davidson to share the fruits of their labor, nourish their neighbors, and strengthen the community they call home.
Each week, nearly 50 vendors from within a 100-mile radius bring the best of the season to market—just-picked produce, pasture-raised meats, fresh eggs, North Carolina seafood, artisan breads, cheeses, honey, flowers, handcrafted specialties, and so much more. Because every vendor grows, raises, bakes, or creates what they sell, every purchase directly supports the people and families behind our local food.
More than 3,000 people gather each week, making the market one of the Lake Norman region’s favorite Saturday morning traditions. Coffee in hand, neighbors linger in conversation while children discover where food comes from, musicians fill the air with familiar tunes, chefs celebrate the season’s harvest, and local organizations connect with the community. Through educational programming, seasonal events, volunteer leadership, and initiatives that expand access to fresh food, the market continues to cultivate a healthier, more connected community.
Whether you come with a shopping list or simply to wander, you’ll leave with something more than fresh food. You’ll leave with a deeper connection to the people, the land, and the community that make Davidson such a special place.

Our HIstory
The Davidson Farmers Market didn’t happen by accident. It was imagined, planned, and built by neighbors who believed Davidson deserved a thriving market where local farmers could flourish and the community could gather.
In 2007, a dedicated committee of local residents, supported by more than 50 volunteers, set out to turn that vision into reality. At a time when communities across the country were embracing local food and sustainable agriculture, they hosted community focus groups, studied successful markets, developed a comprehensive business plan, and forged partnerships with the Town of Davidson, Davidson College, Davidson Lands Conservancy, and other community organizations. Their vision was simple yet ambitious: create a producer-only market where local farmers could thrive and neighbors could reconnect with the people who grow their food.
That vision became reality in 2008 when the Davidson Farmers Market opened with just twelve vendors. The response was immediate. Within a year, the market introduced its first Winter Market, and in 2010 it earned its 501(c)(3) status, establishing the nonprofit organization that continues to steward the market today.
Over the years, the market has grown while remaining true to its founding principles. It has weathered challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, when volunteers, staff, and vendors quickly transformed operations into a drive-through market, ensuring local farmers could continue serving the community safely while providing neighbors with continued access to fresh, local food.
In 2025, the market celebrated another milestone with the publication of its first community cookbook, preserving the recipes, stories, and traditions that make the Davidson Farmers Market so special. Proceeds from the cookbook helped sustain the market’s SNAP Double Bucks program during the temporary interruption of federal funding, ensuring families could continue stretching their food dollars while supporting local farmers.
From twelve vendors in 2008 to nearly fifty today, the Davidson Farmers Market has remained true to the vision that inspired its founders: supporting local farmers, strengthening the local economy, and creating a place where community gathers every Saturday morning.
Our Staff
Courtney Spear
Market Manager
Courtney Spear is the spirited force behind the Davidson Farmers Market, serving as Market Manager and champion of all things local. After first leading the market from 2010 to 2015, Courtney returned in 2020 with fresh energy and a deep love for Davidson’s community vibe.
Every Saturday morning, she orchestrates the magic—bringing together nearly 50 vendors who offer everything from fresh produce to handmade goods. She’s also the one making sure the live music plays, the cooking demos sizzle, and special events keep families and foodies coming back week after week.
Courtney’s passion for the market, sustainable food and community connection goes hand-in-hand with her catering business, known around town (and on Instagram) as @courtneycooksitup, where she shares her love of cooking through catering, private dinners, and weekly meals.
When she’s not planning the market or whipping up a feast, Courtney is in her garden or spending time with her boys (Nick, Jack, and Beck) and new daughter-in-law (Kate), with a grandbaby on the way! Courtney brings heart, flavor, and fun to everything she does.
Pete Lombardo
Assistant Market Manager
Pete Lombardo is the calm, steady presence who helps make Saturday mornings at the Davidson Farmers Market feel effortless. As Assistant Market Manager, he’s often the first to arrive and the last to leave, making sure the market is ready to welcome vendors, volunteers, and thousands of visitors each week.
If you have a question at the market, chances are Pete has the answer. Whether he’s helping a vendor, welcoming a first-time visitor, or solving an unexpected challenge, he’s always happy to jump in wherever he’s needed. Children have a way of finding Pete. Whether they’re curious about a funny-looking vegetable, wondering what’s in season, or eager to talk about last night’s game, he’ll gladly stop what he’s doing to answer every question with patience, kindness, and a smile.
When he’s not at the market, Pete is an avid runner who enjoys the discipline and camaraderie of the sport. His quiet dedication, generosity, and genuine love for the community embody the welcoming spirit that has made the Davidson Farmers Market a cherished Saturday morning tradition.

Our Cookbook
The Davidson Farmers Market Cookbook
This cookbook is a celebration of the Davidson Farmers Market: its farmers, bakers, florists, and other local artisans who fill our baskets, kitchens, and bellies each Saturday morning. Their hands do more than grow and make - they nourish a community. The recipes are paired with the people behind it. Stories that give flavor to the food. We believe these pages reflect the same spirit that fills the market: generosity, sustainability, creativity, and joy.
